Wellington's Victory

Post by shturmovik » Fri Feb 01, 2019 1:46 am

Any takers for Wellington's Victory?
I have one possible player from about Tue/Wed onwards.
Would be happy to push some cardboard around before that with some others to understand the game mechanics better.
i.e. a partial set-up and play a few turns, to get a feel for how to deploy artillery effectively, how effective cavalry charges can be, what happens when you commit the Guard, etc.
I doubt we'd finish the game off if we got round to playing the whole thing from the start, but it would be a great chance for those interested to learn how to play it for future events.
It looks like a system/game worth exploring.

Greg:

I'm interested in the game and would love to learn/play it. Only problem is that I'm not sure how A Time for Trumpets is going to play out when the rubber meets the road. It's I go/you go, but we've talked about splitting the map for our 2 player game (we'd each be Germans for half map, Allies on other half), and I'm the most familiar guy w rules.

So it's going to be a see how it goes thing

No problems.
It's on Merv's possible list only.
Even if we just set up part of the battlefield and play a few tunes that would be better than nothing.
I am mostly looking to 'playtest' it, i.e. play it to learn the rules and strategy.
If we can get to grips with all the formations, the CRT, how a massed cavalry charge plays out, etc, I will be happy.
Next time round I will then be ready to play it 'for real'.
(If this ends up occurring later in the week, all the better.)
I think it's a system worth investing in.

Greg:

WV is a definite possibility for me...I've played the 1st edition (many moons ago), but I reviewed the rules a bit for a Ney vs. Wellington game a few months ago.

I don't think I can fit in the whole battle, but if you need an extra pair of hands for a big assault I might be available...
